How loud is Briiv?

Briiv is a compact unit, but it packs a powerful punch! On level 1, Briiv is around 32 decibels which is comparable to a whisper. At level 2, Briiv is about 43 decibels; similar to a computer. Level 3 is a little louder at around 56 decibels, which is the same noise level as a fridge. On level 4 Briiv is at its loudest 60 decibels, the equivalent noise level of a games console.

How does Briiv improve the air quality?

Briiv uses a fan in the base to pull the air through three layers of filtration. The first layer is the moss, which can remove particles as small as 10 micrometres (PM10). This includes dust and allergens such as pet dander or pollen. The second layer is the coconut filter which removes particulates as small as 5 micrometres, which includes combustion emissions and smoke. The final filter layer is the nano matrix which filters PM2.5 particles from the air, including harmful fine particulates. The nano matrix also contains activated carbon, which pulls odors and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) from the air. The improvement will be dependent on how high the initial room pollution is, so if the room starts off with a very high particulate count, the reduction will be a lot more than a room that already has a very low particulate count. Briiv delivers approximately 53 cubic feet per minute of purified, clean air at its maximum setting. It takes 60 minutes to filter all the air in a 6m x 6m room through Briiv, in line with standard Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) tests.

Does Briiv have to be on every day?

We'd recommend running the Briiv once per day to keep the air clear. Every time you leave the house, open a window, cook, or use cleaning products you can introduce new pollutants into the home which will need filtering out.

Does Briiv remove CO2 from the air?

Briiv is designed to capture a combination of particulate matter and VOCs and remove them from your air using moss, coconut, and a nano matrix filter. CO2 can’t be captured by these filters, and you'll likely find this with most home air filters.

Can I use Briiv without WiFi?

Briiv works both with or without a WiFi connection. If you don't connect your unit to WiFi, you won’t be able to control Briiv via the app. Briiv features touch buttons so you don’t have to have it connected to the internet in order for it to work.

What are the different speeds for?

Briiv has four speed levels and two distinct modes to utilize:

• Manual mode: you can select the output by pressing + and - to raise and lower the air delivery rate.
• 1-Hour Mode: the unit will automatically be set on maximum power (level 4) and return to its previous setting after 60 minutes. If your Briiv is at maximum power it will be louder than average and therefore it might be inconvenient to run Level 4 if you're attempting to do something sound-sensitive in the same room. Briiv runs from a low-energy 5v USB connection, which means we can pack an impressive amount of power into such a compact unit, and the levels can vary depending on what's appropriate for your own usage and needs. What size room will Briiv clear?

You might find it best to alter your usage and see what works best for you! Briiv can filter all of the air in a 6m x 6m room in an hour on level 4, but you may find this speed is too loud or that you'd rather have the Briiv on a lower speed more consistently.

Does opening windows improve the air quality in your home?

Outside air still contains many pollutants such as dust, pollen, and car fumes. While it can improve air flow and reduce humidity, opening windows might not necessarily improve air quality, and may actually make it worse. This is one reason why we advise you not have your windows open when using Briiv, as it will simply start purifying outdoor pollutants trickling into your home.

Do houseplants actually clean the air in your home? How is Briiv equivalent to 3,043 plants?

This myth came from a study way back in the 1980s by the nice folks at NASA. Although we'd love to be able to fill our homes with exotic plants and enjoy cleaner air than the French Alps, this sadly isn't true. As plants are static and don't have any air being pulled through them, they just can't physically remove any of the harmful particulates that are floating around in our homes. Although plants may not clean the air of particles as much as we thought, they do one important thing exceptionally well, and that's to lock away CO2 as they grow and release oxygen through photosynthesis.

What are the details of the testing carried out on Briiv?

Briiv will improve the air quality in a 36m² (387ft²) living space in just one hour, with a delivery of 53 cubic feet per min of purified clean air. Continual flow tests have been carried out on Briiv under normal and high load conditions, under EN 1822-4 conditions. Overall performance showed a 78% improvement in air quality in one pass, under low load and 80% under high load conditions. Does Briiv need batteries?

Briiv does not contain or require any batteries to work. Briiv utilizes a 5V USB connection to power the unit. This means it can run from mains power, laptops, or even a power bank.

Does Briiv produce ozone?

Briiv doesn’t use an ionizer and doesn’t generate ozone. We haven't carried out ozone specific testing for Briiv as this isn't a standard test or guideline for most air purifiers that don't have an ionizer built into them, but of course some air purifiers do use ionizers to purify the air. Briiv only uses a specialist electronic fan via a 5v USB connection.
